The Price of a Wish

The Price of a Wish

James had arrived early by at least an hour, probably two. His friend was not due to be home soon but James didn’t really feel like going anywhere else to pass the time. So, he parked his car out front of his friend’s home and waited. It was warm enough out that he had the sunshades up in the windshield and kept the car running with the AC blowing gently to keep cool. He had a few CD’s of MP3’s in the car to listen to on his in car MP3 player and he settled back and tried to get comfortable to wait. It was not the easiest thing to do as the casts on his legs made getting comfortable in the cramped drivers seat difficult at best. He would find a seemingly easy position to put his feet in but soon the top edge of one cast would start digging into his knee, or the ankle bone of the other leg would be resting against the hard inside of that cast at just the wrong angle and be causing undue pressure at that point. He would shift around in the small amount of space available in the driver’s position to relieve the offended body part, but a few minutes later the other leg would find a new annoyance and make its discomfort known.

The Ghost

The Ghost
or How I Became A Female Paraplegic

It was a dark and stormy night. Isn’t that how all the badly written stories are supposed to start? Unfortunately for me, it was true.

I had been a drifter since I was 16. Moving from place to place on foot or hitch-hiking, doing odd jobs to earn enough money to get me to the next town my travels took me to. When the night in question happened I was 23 years old. I had been traveling in the central United States and was in a rural area with a moderate sized town in the distance as my destination. It was nearing night fall and I could tell a major storm was gathering over head. I was sure that it was going to let loose before I found decent shelter, and I was right. I got drenched once it started coming down, but having been hiking for the past 7 years I had my other clothing packed inside waterproof bags so I wasn’t too concerned about that. The bad thing was the rain was ice cold so I wanted out of this weather as soon as I could find some place. The sun was going below the horizon to my right as I was passing a small rise to my left and the light from the sun along with a big flash of lightning lit up a building just beyond the rise in the land. Immediately I headed for it hoping to at least find a corner out of the rain if I could not gain entry into the place.

The Fortune Cookie

The Fortune Cookie

By Abbacor

“I can’t believe this has happened to me. Not really. It still feels like a dream. What am I talking about you ask? Well, I’m lying here in a Full Body Cast made out of black fiberglass that goes from the top of my head to my toes leaving only the tips of my toes and fingers, my face, and my groin exposed. And there is no pain. That’s because not a single bone in my body is broken. Not one. Now you’re probably wondering how I managed to get myself in this predicament, right? Let me start by saying that I am not unhappy about my current situation, in fact I’m in paradise. I still have a hard time believing it’s really happening even after everything that has happened.

“So how did I get here you say? Hmm, where should I start? The very beginning? No, that would take too long. Somewhere in the middle, when this little adventure began to go wrong, and yet so right. And there is no doubt in my mind where the beginning of this story should be ...”

The Tomb Explorer

The Tomb Explorer

The time is during the 1910’s. The place is Egypt at the Valley of the Kings. Although having been discovered a few decades earlier, there were still regular trips to the area to try and find something new. One such group is currently onsite at a dig at what they believe to be a new tomb. Professor Emetrius Gymball is in charge, and with him are twenty students from his college who are earning extra credit during this trip. One of those students is a woman. She is just as bright as the rest of the students and just as excited to be on this trip as anyone else, maybe even more so as she is truly fascinated by the subject matter at hand. Her name is Sheila. Sheila is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs around one hundred and forty pounds. She has a fair Caucasian complexion, brown eyes, and reddish-orange hair that she keeps cut short. She would be considered relatively attractive by the standards of the day.  And Sheila is very frustrated.

Just A Prank

Just A Prank
By Abbacor

The alarm went off at 9 AM as scheduled, and I shut if off with a small groan. I’ve never been a morning person, morning being defined as any time before noon. But in this world it’s rare for a student to be able to obtain a schedule that worked for someone such as myself. My classes had actually ended for the semester last week and the summer break, or semester for those who would take it, was coming up. I am planning on taking the break and relax before the fall semester came around. Not being one who is financially set (but not struggling either) I was in need of a job of some type to earn some extra pocket money. I had actually found one that would start today, Monday, and last for a month. The job would pay a nice bit of money that I could then stretch out for a month of relaxing. After that I could get something else for the third month or so until my fall semester and classes started back up again.
